Welcome to the Alfreton Taekwondo page! Classes are held at Alfreton Leisure Centre which is located in the town centre. Free parking is available next to the site (the centre issue free tickets to park) and the bus station is a 5 minute walk away.
Students can train on Monday evenings between 7:30pm and 8:30pm. We also partner with the Pilsley club (see here) which holds a class on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8pm and you are welcome to train at either/both of these venues.
Facilities at Alfreton Taekwondo School
We train in a large, well lit hall with a floor well suited to taekwondo. There is a viewing area for parents and those who wish to watch.
The venue is open all year round including school holidays although we do close for bank holidays. If you are unable to attend a class due to a closure you are welcome to train at one of the other schools free of charge that week.
We have a wide range of ages and abilities at Alfreton which makes the class is ideal for new students.
Individuals and family groups train in Alfreton and are equally welcome.
Note that you don’t have to be fit or have any kind of martial arts experience to start training, we expect to teach you! We don’t have an upper age limit and plenty of people pick up taekwondo in their later life.
For the younger children, we ask that they are able to follow commands and keep their attention for an hour. Typically this is 7+ years old but as young as 5 have signed up.
History of the Club
Master Brian Towndrow originally founded Alfreton Taekwondo in Clay Cross over 30 years ago. Master Towndrow has been instrumental in the success of the TAGB and still remains active as a committee member. He is also the North Midlands Area co-coordinator and grading examiner.
The club relocated to Alfreton town centre over a decade ago and continued to grow and succeed. In 2008 James Seaman started training and teaching at the club and has now taken over as the instructor for Alfreton.
If you would like to visit us, simply come along and watch a class. You do not need to book in advance, just show up and see what you think.
If you enjoyed watching a class then you can come back for another lesson where you have a go. Wear tracksuit bottoms/t-shirt or similar loose fitting clothes and join in.
The first two training sessions are free and there is no pressure to join. Assuming you enjoy all of this, we can arrange for a license and buy you a dobok (the suit we train in) and you can become a part of the club.
Directions to Alfreton Taekwondo
